Unreal Engine Class (Complete)

Inca, a level design that base on Machu Picchu concept and mix with high tech alien equipment.



Unreal Engine Class (Process)

Ok, after using 3DS Max create all the props, now I will go to Unreal Tournament 3 Editor to set up my Level.

As below was the process of making this game, you may find it not so detail, I apologize here.
Anyway, hope you still can enjoy the fun of making game. ^^


All right, let's get down to the main business...


First, I create BSP model in UT3 Editor to run test the level.

At the same time, I also do create some material apply to BSP as a base.

Import all the Static Mesh (UT3 Editor call Props as static mesh), Texture and place it base on BSP.

Adding water volume to make the level more interesting.

Forget to tell, This is capture the flag game mode,  after place all the static mesh, add some light colour to differentiate the red and blue team.


Adjust all the light setting  to make a good mood and shadow in the level.

Start working on outdoor of the level, adding a platform on center not just can be a bridge and also create stunning visual.  
Refine both indoor and outdoor static mesh, light and material. 
Pathnode and some pickup is a  must in level, use some times to arrange it nicely.

Adding height fog, post process volume, block volume and a lot of enhance volume.Although you saw a lot of these effect appear half way before my level done, that's because I was trying to experiment some setting.

Unreal Engine Class (Extra)

When doing this project, I was very surprise that specular map and normal map is very very importance for game low poly model.

Why I say is importance, see it yourself. ^^

This is 3D model just apply a diffuse map, all light and shadow appear base on the low poly model shape.

After apply specular map, the highlight can differentiate which part shown and which part hide.


Apply a normal map will make a major difference, it can cause the plane texture have shadow.


Unreal Tournament 3 Level Props

Last update I mention about I rush for an academic game project and because of lost my hard disk, I need
to redo all my work for the level, character and weapon within 3 weeks time.. T.T

Anyway, here is the low poly props that I model and texture in 3DS Max.

As below is print screen from Max view port.

This is the total amount of props I create in this UT3 level, just that? So less? Yah, just this amount of props
will enough for me to complete design an outdoor and indoor level.

Zbrush, Unreal Engine Class Character Sculpt

After I done the final sketch, is time to do high poly sculpt in Zbrush as below.
Will do the low poly version for Unreal Tournament 3 Character, but now just to show some high poly first. ^^



Some Old Stuff

It has been long time I din't update my blog, the reason why I din't update is cause of rushing my recent academic project Unreal Tournament 3.

It take me long time to finish and also I lost my hard disk at my classroom, so all the work I have to redo, what a sad story, anyway, I still haven't finish the project, but now I will still upload some of my old digital painting work. Enjoy^^

I always like their story and their characteristic also, and I will happy if I able to draw them once with my drawing style.

This is first time I draw character and background together, it take me 3 weeks to finish.... T.T

Try to paint the Taiwanese artist style.



By the time I draw this is when I was very admire a China artist called Benjamin.

Ok, is time to post something related to my Lim Kok Wing Games art work..

Actually this is my semester 3 game project that complete with my classmate.
Say this project complete, but I din't feel like it is complete, it just submit already.
Oh well, is a good experience to work on this project.

The work is use XNA to create.

Furniture Design

Sometimes I will work as part time interior designer,
and is actually quite fun to design or do some work that is improve human lifestyle.

As below, is some design option of shoe rack + cabinet for my client.
The main design here is to make the kid and the parent can wear and take off shoe together in the same time.

This album the model is ourself, the art direction is ourself,
so have to communicate well the partner I work with, because is impossible to photo by myself.

3D Modeling price from RM500 to RM50

Ok, this is a past tense freelance job that I did for a so call animation company.
This job is share with my another 4 friend, and the pay rare was 1 complete model and texture is RM50.
The market price now is about RM500, so all I want to say is, student easily get cheated.

In the end the animation company din pay a sen to us..

As below was the work I do.
Why I suddenly share about this? Because recently I just read my friend blog write about this.

Nothing much I can do, just learn ^^





MIA Diploma Show 12112010








My diploma show had launch last year already, but now I am feeling like want to share, or maybe is just that I miss the moment I study in MIA, the moment I be with my crazy but fun room mate and class mate. The moment we stay overnight for assignment, the moment we discuss.

So, as below is the diploma show poster, postcard and interactive screen shot.
I can't remember how many of us graduate, but here is 14 of us able to show out our work in this diploma show.


Killer X&Y

This novel is talk about the lifestyle between 2 difference killer, 1 is for money and the other 1 is for interested.

Unreal Engine Level Mock Up


This is the base level of my Unreal engine study class, I expand the width from the original design to make it
 look more like Machu Picchu and add on a flying platform to show the intelligence of Inca people.

Unity 3D Class (Propose Idea)

This is for the unreal tournament level design, and of cause my theme is inspire from the culture of Inca empire and the Indiana native.


After my research, I decide to use the Machu Picchu as my level design basic reference.


The is the floor plan of the level design, the level more focus on exterior, but the building have interior space that need me design later.
This is the exterior look of the level design building.

The Idea for Zbrush Character





In the end, I decide to do something related to Inca empire and Indiana Native culture.
This character costume seen old style, but his armor and the equipment he use is very hi-tech and full of intelligent.
Still rough here, need to polish up and do colour testing.
